Monaco ‘to target’ Erick Pulgar after Filipe Luís recommendation | OneFootball

Monaco have approached Erick Pulgar’s representatives at the request of coach Filipe Luís, and the Flamengo midfielder’s release clause has dropped to four million euros (R$ 23.1 million).

AS in Chile reports that Monaco’s interest comes as Luís, newly in post, previously coached the Chilean at Flamengo and is an admirer.

The move is complicated by the league’s rules on non-EU players. Clubs are limited to four, and Monaco already have Vanderson, Balogun and Minamino, with Senegalese players exempt under a Europe–Africa agreement. Signing Pulgar would fill the final slot.

Pulgar has also drawn approaches from the United States and Saudi Arabia, where salaries are higher. A Saudi club has already agreed personal terms and is now discussing whether to trigger the clause.

Interested clubs do not need to negotiate with Flamengo, they can agree terms with the player, notify the club and deposit the stipulated amount.

Pulgar, 32, has been at Flamengo since 2022, making 164 appearances with five goals and nine assists, and winning nine trophies. He renewed in March last year with a pay rise, though his salary remains below some midfielders who are not starters. His deal runs to the end of 2027 and he is seeking what could be the last major contract of his career.
