Morgan Gibbs-White missed out on England’s World Cup squad despite hitting 15 Premier League goals for Nottingham Forest.

The former Wolves academy graduate, sold to Forest for an initial 35m in 2022, has six caps but was left out by manager Thomas Tuchel last week. He finished as the second highest scoring Englishman in the league, behind Ollie Watkins.

The 26-year-old from Stafford made 88 senior appearances for Wolves. While Phil Foden and Cole Palmer were also overlooked after underwhelming domestic campaigns, Tuchel faced criticism for selecting 35-year-old Jordan Henderson.

“I was disappointed, really disappointed, but I was happy with the way I performed towards the end of the season,” he said. He told Sky Sports News.

“I knew in myself I couldn’t do any more. Any kid’s dream growing up is to play at a World Cup or make a World Cup squad list.”

“I’m wishing all the boys all the luck, all the best wishes, because this group, they are genuinely an incredible group of players. They’ve got everything they need to win it.”
