Nottingham Forest will be without Murillo for Friday’s Premier League trip to Sunderland, with Vitor Pereira confirming a muscle problem. According to Nottingham Post, the defender was forced off shortly before half-time in last Sunday’s 4-1 win over Burnley. That result moved Forest five points clear of the relegation zone.

He will not travel to the Stadium of Light, and Pereira said he cannot predict the exact timeline but thinks the defender will miss more than one game. He is also likely to sit out next Thursday’s Europa League semi-final first leg at home to Aston Villa, though he is expected to feature again this season.

Forest have also lost Callum Hudson-Odoi for the remainder of the campaign after the winger underwent surgery following the Europa League victory over Porto. Pereira said the priority is a full recovery so he can return at his previous level.

Hudson-Odoi was on crutches at the City Ground on Sunday. Dan Ndoye, who missed that game, is in contention to return and is on the list for the game after what the head coach termed a small problem.

Sunderland, enjoying a strong campaign on their Premier League return, are 11th and have 10 points more than Forest. Pereira praised their consistency and the energy they draw at home, but stressed the focus is on his side’s mentality. Kick-off is at 8pm as Forest aim to extend their unbeaten run to eight games.
