Nadiem Amiri has been named Mainz's player of the season, taking eight of the 10 votes from the outlet's writing team, according to BuLi News.

After finishing sixth in 2024/25 and eyeing Europe, Mainz started poorly and Bo Henriksen was sacked in early December with the team bottom. Urs Fischer arrived, lifted them to 10th and reached the UEFA Conference League quarter-finals, restoring optimism for 2026/27.

Amiri sat at the heart of that revival. Off the back of seven goals and eight assists last term, and with Jonathan Burkardt leaving last summer, he shouldered more load. Despite missing five league games between late February and early April, he finished as Mainz's top Bundesliga scorer with 12 and added two assists.

His standout display arguably came in the 2-0 home win over Augsburg during carnival at the MEWA Arena. He scored both goals and created three key passes, nine accurate final-third passes and five progressive carries, plus a big chance. He also won 45 percent of duels, completed half his tackles and made five recoveries as Mainz kept a clean sheet.

Two others were recognised, Daniel Batz and Kaishu Sano. Batz deputised for the injured Robin Zentner, kept four clean sheets, posted a 72 percent save rate in 21 games and has earned a move to Borussia Mönchengladbach. Sano's industry earned 'Iron Man' status, and the Japan international is set for the World Cup and is reportedly attracting interest from several top European clubs.
