Nagelsmann ‘to have included’ Neuer in provisional 55-man World Cup list | OneFootball

Julian Nagelsmann has been tipped to have included Manuel Neuer among Germany’s provisional World Cup goalkeeper options, with the DFB submitting a 55-man list to FIFA on Monday.

Kicker reports the issue has been, and remains, the subject of intense internal debate, despite Nagelsmann’s restrained public stance. Bayern are understood to be aware of the situation and have reportedly agreed a new contract with the veteran goalkeeper.

The preliminary list is not public, but it is assumed Neuer features alongside Oliver Baumann, Alexander Nübel, Finn Dahmen and Jonas Urbig. Of the 55 names, at least five are expected to be goalkeepers.

Nagelsmann and Neuer have repeatedly maintained that their relationship is good and that they speak regularly. Friction from January 2023, when Nagelsmann dismissed Neuer’s confidant Toni Tapalovic during the keeper’s leg injury, is said to have long since eased.

With the World Cup approaching, Nagelsmann will confirm his final squad on Thursday, 21 May.
