Manuel Neuer retired from the German national team in August 2024, but there are increasing signs that Bayern Munich’s custodian could play at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to Kicker, despite Neuer (40) reiterating that he’s retired from international duty, there continues to be internal discussions regarding whether Julian Nagelsmann is reconsidering his initial decision regarding Germany’s No.1 jersey, which currently belongs to Hoffenheim’s Oliver Baumann.
On Monday, the DFB had to submit a preliminary squad list consisting of 55 players to FIFA, of which five of them must be goalkeepers. Per Kicker, while it doesn’t have to be made public, it can be assumed that Neuer’s name is on that list alongside Alexander Nübel, Finn Dahmen and Jonas Urbig. Whether Neuer will be named in Germany’s squad come 2 June, remains to be seen.
