Nantes Métropole says it has not been approached about a possible sale of FC Nantes, and outlined its stance on the club’s facilities. According to L'Équipe, the matter was raised during Friday’s metropolitan council session.
Opposition councillor Foulques Chombart de Lauwe, LR, tabled an oral question about a prospective takeover with unclear funding, fronted by former agent Paulo Tavares. Nantes Métropole owns La Beaujoire and La Jonelière, the club’s stadium and training and administrative base.
Emmanuel Terrien, the vice-president for sport and sports venues, said the authority had received no contact from FC Nantes or any would-be buyer about a sale. He added that ownership choices rest with the private company, but if a change occurs the Métropole would meet bidders to discuss their sporting plan.
Terrien also stressed that any change to the land around La Beaujoire would require a PLU modification, which is not on the agenda today or tomorrow. He noted the Métropole has invested heavily in La Beaujoire and will continue to treat it as a key asset.
He said he does not envisage a major renovation of the stadium, nor a move from La Beaujoire even if future owners wanted one. Several years ago, Kita pursued the YelloPark project before abandoning it.
