Manchester United target Nathaniel Brown has responded to the increasing speculation surrounding a big-money departure from Eintracht Frankfurt at the end of the season, with several of Europe’s biggest clubs vying to secure his signature.

Upgrading the Left-Hand Side

While the Red Devils are prioritising an overhaul of their midfield in this summer’s transfer market, they are also looking to sign reinforcements out wide. Sky Sports reveals that both fullback and winger are “positions of interest” on the left-hand side.

The opposite flank is well-stocked with two experienced internationals, Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui, at right-back, and Amad and Bryan Mbeumo competing for the right-wing starting berth. By contrast, the current starters on the left – Luke Shaw and Matheus Cunha – are only backed up by Patrick Dorgu, who is currently recovering from a serious hamstring injury.

The 21-year-old Dane was initially signed as a wing-back for Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system. While he struggled under the former Sporting Clube de Portugal manager, he enjoyed two of his best performances in a red shirt when interim boss Michael Carrick deployed him as a left-winger in back-to-back wins over Manchester City and Arsenal in January.

If United decide this is where Dorgu’s future lies, it increases the need to strengthen the left-back position, as Shaw’s body may not be able to cope with the increased workload that a return to European football will entail next season.

This has led Brown to emerge as a key target after a series of impressive displays as an attacking fullback for Frankfurt. English duo Lewis Hall and Myles Lewis-Skelly are also understood to be under consideration.

Brown Responds to Speculation

Speaking to German outlet SportsBILD, Brown was asked for his response to the increasing interest from major clubs across Europe.

“Yes, you do pick up on things like that, but it doesn’t influence me. I’m concentrating on the goals that are within my control. Nothing else interests me right now,” the 22-year-old states.

Frankfurt are believed to have set an asking price of €65 million (£56.5m) for their prized asset, as Arsenal and Manchester City join the Red Devils in the hunt. Spanish rivals FC Barcelona and Real Madrid are also mentioned as suitors.

“[That’s] a truly staggering sum. But frankly speaking, I’m not giving numbers like that, or the possibility of a transfer this summer, a second thought,” Brown reveals.

“My focus is entirely on Eintracht and our goal of qualifying for Europe. And after that, I would really love to be part of the World Cup squad. Then, I’ll see what happens in the summer. It’s hard to make plans in football, which is why I don’t dwell on it.”

Final Thoughts

The Germany international, set to play a key role for his country at the World Cup, will be one of the most highly sought-after players this summer as touchline terrors are in increasing demand at fullback. United will just be hoping it’s the Old Trafford flank he is bombing down next season, not the Etihad or Emirates.
