ABC de Sevilla reports that the club began pre-season aiming to cut players outside Luis García Plaza’s plans. Cardoso is the sole remaining out-of-favour player awaiting a solution in the final days of the window.

The Portuguese centre-back has one year left on his deal and the club are assessing options, including a mutually agreed termination. Any rescission would affect the club’s salary limit, so viability depends on available room.

Signed in summer 2025 on a two-year contract as one of Antonio Cordón’s last additions, Cardoso featured only sparingly last term. Sevilla have sought an exit since, with Saudi Arabia interest yet to produce an acceptable offer.

If no agreement emerges, Sevilla would register Cardoso for this season, and squad licences would not be an issue. Planning under José Ignacio Navarro includes keeping three or more spots free for academy players.

This summer brought eight arrivals and a sweeping clear-out overseen by Navarro, who moved on Tanguy Nianzou, Joan Jordán, Rafa Mir and Federico Gattoni. With Cardoso unresolved, the final grade on departures rests on what happens before the deadline.
