Juventus have confirmed the return of Neto Murara, 37, nine years after his last spell in Serie A. The club announced he arrives to bolster a position where, on paper, Guglielmo Vicario is first choice.

The decision rested on two factors, his recent activity with Botafogo, where he played until May, and his deep familiarity with the league after six and a half seasons across Fiorentina and Juventus. Experience enough to integrate without a long adaptation period.

Turin is hardly new territory. Neto joined Juventus in 2015 after four and a half years at Fiorentina to serve as Gianluigi Buffon’s understudy. His Serie A involvement was limited, but he played every minute of the Coppa Italia in 2015/16 and 2016/17, both won by the Bianconeri, keeping five clean sheets in 10 games.

He left for Valencia in July 2017 in a deal worth €6 million plus €1 million in add-ons, ending his first Juventus stint. The transfer reunited him with a starting role he had lacked behind Buffon.

In Valencia he was first-choice for two seasons, helped the team return to the Champions League and lifted the 2019 Copa del Rey, before moving to Barcelona.
