Nat Seaton:

‘Great result without it being the best of performances, though that doesn’t mean we didn’t play well !

Definitely a bit of Champions League fatigue but they came through and took the 3 points.

Great captain’s goal and winning of the penalty and what a penalty by Nick!!

We’ve probably played better and not won this season but we created more than enough chances from our play to deservedly take all 3 points going into the international break when (some of) our players can have a well deserved rest.’

Billy Miller:

‘I was watching the game on my phone whilst on a tour of Giant’s Causeway, so I didn’t catch everything.

But, from what I saw, it was a giant performance by our skipper topped off with a spectacular goal and then a wunderbar penalty from our giant striker.

Perfect result to take us into the international break.’

Mark Jankowski:

‘Another clean sheet and a valuable 3 points as Newcastle start to build some momentum.

Newcastle probably made harder work of it than they should have done but some excellent stops from Sels stopped the scoreline from being wider.

We’ve still got ground to make up but with a more favourable run of fixtures on the horizon, now is the time to kick on!’

GToon:

‘Huge win today.

That was a battle at times but we won it and that battle normally takes place in the middle of the park.

Tonali and Bruno were excellent and Joelinton was frightening, especially if you were Elliot Anderson who he decided to sort out.

The physical approach pushed Forest further back as they had to retreat to get the space to play. You could see the forest players were not confident on the ball as we pushed forward.

I think the great football terms “he doesn’t want it” and “he’ll give you it back” were very appropriate today.

Final point. I wonder what Osula thinks as he enters the pitch with a few minutes left. Whatever it is, it tends to leave opposing players lying on the floor. Hilarious.

And he’ll be some player I reckon when he gets a run of games.’

Matt Busby said…:

‘I’ve seen us play better and yet their keeper was their MOTM, making some outstanding saves this afternoon to prevent a hell of a pasting.

Tonali was outstanding, as usual.

Bruno setting us on our way with a fabulous strike and winning the penalty, meant he edged our MOTM award for me.

And what an execution from the spot from big Nick.

Back to back wins and another clean sheet. What a difference a week makes.’

The Armchair Fan:

‘Fantastic afternoon!

Well worth the win due to a brilliant second half performance.

I predicted 2-0 in my preview too with both goals coming in the second half. Feel free to ask me for the lottery numbers!

The team is starting to gel together and we’ve got options from the bench too.

I’m really happy with that and feeling confident we can put a run of form together and climb the league table.’

Tony Mallabar:

‘There’s an old lads’ saying, what happens aboard stays aboard…

Well I was happily going along with this until 1am this morning, when what happened in Brussels certainly wasn’t staying in Brussels, as I was up most of the night in the little boys’ room.

So hopefully for one game only I became one of Eddie Howe’s firestick mags.

What I took from the game…we had 3 cracking games against Notts Forest last season, unfortunately this season they have gone way back from what I witnessed against us last season.

With ex toon goalie keeping them in the game longer than it should have taken us to put them to bed.

Bruno looked like he had a point to prove against Elliot Anderson, with a well taken goal and winning us a pen.

Big nick despatched the perfect pen right in the top corner.

As much as I want our Anth (Elanga)…at the moment we look a better team with the Birtley Beardsley back in the team.

So just after we started to get a bit momentum going, it’s shut up shop for some more pointless internationals.’

Simon Ritter:

‘United didn’t look great while Forest were playing for a draw.

Not enough quick, slick passing, not enough attempts to score.

Once we struck through Bruno’s cracker, we found more space and would have bagged another two or three goals if not for shooting straight at Sels.

Big Nick Woltemade made things safe with a blinding penalty.

A hard-won three points against a team also likely to be climbing the table sooner rather than later.’

David Punton:

‘A deserved victory and a much needed one to get us up that league table.

We played well today and perhaps should have won by a few more.

Bruno got us going with an absolute stunner and then Woltemade with a beautiful unsavable penalty. He went high and thankfully it didn’t clear the bar.

Anderson, bless him, conceded the spot-kick that enabled us to put the seal on it.

It’s been a good week and Forest fans might be grateful we’ve helped to hasten their manager towards the exit door.’
