Newcastle agree €30m deal for Lukas Hornicek as Benfica miss out | OneFootball

Newcastle have agreed a €30m deal with Braga for Czech goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek, 24. According to Glorioso 1904, the fee matches his release clause and ends Benfica's pursuit.

He had been linked to Benfica in recent weeks, although Rui Costa did not lodge a bid. Hornicek is expected on Saturday for a medical and to sign a contract of at least four years. The clubs have agreed the payment terms.

The move ranks among Braga's biggest sales, equalling the recent departure of Rodrigo Zalazar and trailing only Vitinha and Roger Fernandes at €32m.

With the transfer close, Hornicek did not feature against Zeleznicar Pancevo in the Europa Conference League. The absence was officially for technical reasons, intended to avoid any injury risk before completion.

Braga have designated Brazilian Bernardo Fontes as his successor in goal. The Premier League club add a new goalkeeper for the coming season.
