Newcastle eye Froholdt, Porto to point to 85 million euros clause | OneFootball

Newcastle are assessing a move for Froholdt, but Porto are calm given his 85 million euros release clause and the Dane’s wish to stay for at least another season. No formal contact or bid has reached the club.

According to O Jogo, the player’s representatives have been sounded out by Newcastle staff to gauge potential terms and whether he is open to the Premier League. Porto do not want to lose a key asset and would start any talks at the clause.

Newcastle have tracked him since his Copenhagen days. With Bruno Guimarães’ imminent move to Arsenal for a fee that could reach 90 million euros, the PIF-run club will need to act in the market and have the resources to do so. Froholdt is one of several names under consideration.

After the Supertaça triumph, Froholdt described Porto as a huge club, said he enjoys being there and stressed his focus on the next league match, aiming to push hard in the competition.

Last season he clinched 1-0 wins at Famalicão from a low cross by Moura, then against Rio Ave at the Dragão after a Pietuszewski assist. Now Pepê supplied the delivery for his header that decided the Supertaça and secured the trophy.
