The club were publicly challenged by fan group NUST last month to show where Newcastle United tickets go, a letter sent to Newcastle United CEO David Hopkinson.

This applied to both home and away tickets, with fans increasingly frustrated by the lack of transparency,

NUST (Newcastle United Supporters Trust) sending an open letter to the club, asking for the clarity and transparency that should be the bare minimum that fans get.

That NUST letter (see in full below) detailing…: “We are once again calling on the club to provide full and unambiguous transparency around ticketing.

“This issue has been raised by the Newcastle United Supporters Trust (NUST) on multiple occasions, and the failure to provide clarity is contributing to growing frustration, mistrust, and division within the fanbase.

“The information we are requesting is straightforward, reasonable, and in the public interest. There is no credible reason why it cannot be shared. In fact, doing so would demonstrate the club’s respect for its supporters and commitment to fair process…”

Now NUST have given an update revealing conversations have taken place with Newcastle United CEO David Hopkinson.

NUST official statement – 15 October 2025:

‘Open Request for Ticketing Transparency : A Response From NUFC

As you may recall, last month we wrote an open letter to the club requesting transparency of ticketing information that has been long called for by supporters including number of season ticket holders/Mags members, home and away ticket allocations and ballot success rates.

(You can read that letter below)

We wanted to share a brief update on the response to our letter from the club.

Since sending our letter, we’ve had productive conversations with the club’s new CEO, David Hopkinson. We are encouraged by his openness and willingness to engage directly on the issues we raised on your behalf. This marks the beginning of a constructive relationship; one we are hopeful will lead to more meaningful dialogue and progress for supporters.

David shared the following with us:

“I’ve really valued the conversations I’ve had with Lisa Mole from the Newcastle United Supporters Trust. As CEO, it’s been incredibly important for me to understand the deep connection between this club and its supporters, and Lisa has been instrumental in helping me appreciate the vital role the Trust plays in representing our fan community. These discussions have given me genuine insight into what Newcastle United means to so many people, and they’ve been built on a foundation of mutual trust and openness. I’m committed to ensuring that supporter voices remain at the heart of everything we do as we move forward together, and I believe that trust between the club and our fans is essential to our success.”

We’re pleased that this dialogue is happening and we will continue to press for greater transparency, fairness and clarity, particularly around how tickets are allocated; something we know matters deeply to our members and the wider fanbase.

We will keep you updated as these conversations continue.’

As the letter pointed out, it is simply embarrassing for the Newcastle United owners and senior staff to claim that the information is ‘commercially sensitive‘, as a valid reason for not telling fans what the truth is.

Whether that is how many Newcastle United members are and how many tickets go into ballots and queue sales each home match.

Or what happens with tickets for away games, exactly how many tickets go to season ticket holders, especially when there is a limited allocation.

The likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and other clubs make public this kind of information to their fans, absolutely no reason why Newcastle United shouldn’t do the same.
