Newcastle United are reported to have intensified their pursuit of Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara, with a £55m to £64m deal considered more likely this summer. According to TeamTalk, Paris Saint-Germain and clubs in Spain are also interested, but Newcastle are viewed as a more viable stepping stone if Sandro Tonali leaves, with the Italy midfielder linked with Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea.

“For now, I am really happy at Monaco. I’m not thinking about changing clubs but we will see what happens at the end of the season.” He told The Guardian in December.

Sunderland were linked ahead of January and were said to have asked Monaco about a surprise deal as they explored pairing him with team-mate Habib Diarra at the Stadium of Light.

The 22-year-old has been among Ligue 1’s most consistent midfielders after spells with Metz and Monaco, and his form is said to have drawn interest across Europe. Talk of a switch to Wearside has cooled in recent months.

The summer window could shape his next step, with Newcastle’s plans and Tonali’s situation potentially influential.
