Newcastle United have endured a difficult start to the 2025-26 Premier League campaign. 

The Magpies have dropped down to 14th in the league after consecutive losses to West Ham United and Brentford. 

With the team just two points above the relegation zone, questions have been raised over Eddie Howe’s future at the club. 

But The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards report the English boss retains the full support and backing of the Newcastle hierarchy. 

There is said to be a calm determination behind the scenes at St James’ Park and nobody is swayed by outside noise. 

Senior figures at the club reportedly knew this season was going to be tough because of their European matches and the acrimonious departure of Alexander Isak. 

Newcastle look to bounce back after Brentford defeat

The Magpies entered the international break on a sour note as they suffered a disappointing 3-1 loss at Brentford on Sunday. 

The Tyneside club were leading 1-0 at half-time after Harvey Barnes lashed the ball home. 

But Brentford came roaring back after the interval as Kevin Schade levelled the scores before Igor Thiago added another from the penalty spot. 

The Brazilian wrapped up a comfortable victory with a third goal deep in stoppage-time. 

Howe’s men face a difficult assignment on their return from international break as they welcome Manchester City to St James’ Park. 

City, who are in the Premier League title race with Arsenal, crushed Liverpool 3-0 in their previous fixture at the Etihad Stadium.
