Neymar resumes training as Santos target midweek return against São Paulo | OneFootball

Neymar has returned to group work at CT Rei Pelé, taking part of Thursday’s session as he nears the end of recovery from a left knee arthroscopy.

According to Diario Do Peixe, he is not expected to be named for Saturday’s clássico against São Paulo at Morumbis, in the sixth round of the Campeonato Paulista. The club’s plan points to Wednesday’s meeting with São Paulo in the Brasileirão at Vila Belmiro for his comeback.

Santos reconvened after a 4-2 defeat to Chapecoense in their league opener, with focus on the weekend derby. On Thursday only the players who were substitutes in Chapecó trained on the pitch, the starters did gym-based recovery.

Preserved from the trip to Santa Catarina, Gabigol trained normally with the group and is available to the staff. Another development saw Rony take his first session with the squad. The 30-year-old has not yet been officially announced, but an agreement with Atlético-MG is in place, he has completed medicals, trained and will sign a three-season deal once Atlético’s documents arrive.

Coach Juan Pablo Vojvoda still has confirmed absences. Willian Arão is recovering from surgery to remove a kidney stone, Gustavo Henrique is treating a right adductor injury, Tiquinho Soares has left calf oedema and Thaciano is recovering from oedema in the right hamstring.

Santos will complete preparations on Friday at CT Rei Pelé before travelling to the capital. The San-São is scheduled for Saturday at 20:30 at Morumbis.
