OGC Nice expect clarity on their ownership this week, which should let the club plan for next season. The Gym have paused since sealing survival against Saint-Étienne, 0-0, 4-1, 10 days ago.

According to L'Équipe, after seven years under Ineos, a change of hands is close with an Anglo-Saxon fund involved. The newcomer could begin as a minority with scope to grow, or take an immediate majority, signalling a planned Ineos step back.

While the buyer’s identity has not leaked, the American fund mentioned in recent weeks is no longer thought to be leading. Another Anglo-Saxon fund is closer and it is likely Ineos have nudged up the price. An imminent agreement could bring forward work slated around 15 June.

With Jean-Pierre Rivère’s interim presidency over, Maurice Cohen is running day-to-day operations. Jean-Claude Blanc, who links the club and Ineos, has suggested keeping the 71-year-old initially and is also pushing to confirm Geoffrey Moncada to lead the sporting department regardless of the shareholding.

Claude Puel is unlikely to remain in charge barring a late twist. Alexandre Dujeux, 50, who left the SCO last week, is a prominent candidate, though Lens and Lorient are also interested.

Another option is Wilfried Nancy, 49, who had a one-month stint at Celtic Glasgow in December. He has strong standing in MLS, was named 2024 coach of the year, and led Columbus to second in the regular season and the Concacaf Champions Cup final, a market where the prospective investors could be based.
