Not registered in time to play against Leeds, Nick Woltemade watched from the stands at Elland Road as Newcastle picked up a point.

Then the 23 year old flying straight off to meet up with the rest of the Germany squad and starting both September internationals, the second of those a 3-1 win over Northern Ireland on Sunday 7 September, Nick Woltemade getting an assist for the opening goal.

The striker flying straight back to Tyneside and training with his Newcastle United teammates throughout last week.

This culminating in an excellent debut, showing some great touches and link-up play, plus of course the small matter of the winning goal against Wolves.

Relatively inexperienced (only 32 top tier starts, all in the Bundesliga) ahead of Saturday’s Newcastle debut, you have to say Nick Woltemade has handled his move so well, off the pitch as well as onit.

Following his match winning debut for NUFC, Nick Woltemade has been speaking to German media about how he is settling in on Tyneside.

The striker keen to reveal just how great Eddie Howe has been in helping him to settle in, whilst Nick Woltemade also going public on his living arrangements.

Bild reporting; ‘The German international striker has already moved into a house a few kilometres outside the city, about a half-hour drive from the training ground.’

Nick Woltemade telling Bild after the win over Wolves about the input from Eddie Howe that has helped him off the pitch, not just on it:

“He (Eddie Howe) makes me feel good

“I have one-on-one conversations with him every day.

“They are mostly about topics that have nothing to do with football.

“Like my move, or how my family is doing.

“It is a great working culture here.”

Nick Woltemade also telling Bild about his living arrangements now he has moved to a new country and settling in on Tyneside:

“My friends are here with me, so I get a lot of support.

“One of them is even moving in with me permanently.

“We are very good friends and have always joked that if I ever move abroad, we will go there together.”

Bild adding:

This means that the 1.98-meter-tall giant will be living in a shared apartment with his best friend. Woltemade says with a grin: “Neither of us has a girlfriend, so we’re pretty free in that regard.”

Good luck to our new striker, on and off the pitch.

It isn’t essential I suppose to have players who are good characters off the pitch, as well as what they contribute on it.

However, it can’t do any harm. Nick Woltemade comes across really well in his interviews so far as a canny lad and joins a Newcastle United squad that has plenty other players with great character.
