Schlotterbeck started as the left-sided centre-back in Germany's usual back four, whilst Nmecha played alongside Bayern's Aleksandar Pavlovic in defensive midfield until he was substituted in the 83rd minute. In a quiet first half, Stuttgart's Deniz Undav scored the only goal in the 3 4th minute. After the break, Germany became more effective and scored their second, third and fourth goals through Florian Wirtz (48), Undav again (57) – who made way for Maxi Beier after his second goal – and Jamal Musiala (63). Beier had a chance to score the fifth goal of the evening in stoppage time, but a Finnish defender blocked his shot on the goal line. Waldemar Anton, the fourth Borussia player in the German World Cup squad, did not feature against the Nordic side.
BVB goalkeeper Gregor Kobel was also limited to watching Switzerland’s 4-1 victory over Jordan on Sunday afternoon from the bench for the full 90 minutes. Kobel will, however, compete in the World Cup as Switzerland’s number one. In the coming days, the other BVB World Cup players will also be preparing for the tournament in the USA, Canada and Mexico. On Monday, the two Dortmund defenders Julian Ryerson (Norway) and Daniel Svensson (Sweden) will face off in a head-to-head clash in Oslo (1 June, 19:00 CEST, live on DAZN).
The German national team’s final warm-up match is scheduled for this coming Saturday (6 June) in Chicago. In their final match before the tournament kicks off, Germany will face co-hosts the USA (kick-off 20:30 CEST, live on RTL).
