The contract talks between FC Bayern and Dayot Upamecano continue to drag on, with no breakthrough in sight

FC Bayern recently hoped for a tailwind in the contract poker with Dayot Upamecano. The signals seemed positive, an agreement was in the air. But nothing has come of it for the time being. Munich must continue to exercise patience

Talks without result – the poker game drags on

As reported by Sky, there has been another meeting between those responsible at Bayern and the French international’s camp in the past few days. The result: once again no breakthrough. Max Eberl and Christoph Freund are continuing to work intensively on an extension, but are still encountering resistance from the player’s side

It was recently reported that they had basically come closer to agreeing on the key financial points. Salary and hand money should no longer be a major obstacle. It is therefore all the more surprising that the contract poker has now been going on for around four months – without any tangible result

Exit clause a point of contention – PSG lurking

The sticking point is apparently still the release clause. Upamecano is pushing for a fixed option to be included in his new contract. This is precisely where Bayern are struggling. At Säbener Straße, they want to tie down a top performer like the 27-year-old for the long term – preferably without a back door

The situation is explosive for the record champions. Upamecano has been officially allowed to negotiate with other clubs since 1 January and interest is high, with Paris Saint-Germain in particular reportedly eyeing a transfer-free signing in the summer of 2026

The central defender himself is keeping a low profile. At a fan meeting on Sunday, he did not want to go into detail and simply stated: „I’m in talks with Bayern, that’s all I can say.“

For FC Bayern, there is only one thing to do for the time being: continue to tremble – and hope that the contract poker ends in Munich’s favor after all.
