FC Bayern are stepping up the pressure in the contract poker surrounding Dayot Upamecano. CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen has now made it unmistakably clear to the French central defender that the club expects a decision soon – and will not improve its offer any further
During a visit to the fan club „De roud-weissen Neifinger“ in Neufahrn, Dreesen spoke openly about the status of the talks. „Upa has an offer from us, which we have also improved again. This has already been discussed several times with his advisors and now again with him himself,“ explained the Bayern boss. Then came the clear message: „I think he should sign what he has there now. Because it’s not getting any better.“
This makes it clear that FC Bayern have reached the limit of their concessions. The club no longer sees any room for further financial concessions. At the same time, Dreesen underlined why they absolutely want to keep Upamecano: „We have made him an exceptionally good offer because he has played very well for a year and a half now. He is certainly one of the best central defenders in the world. With him and Jonathan Tah, but also the others, we have regained stability. That’s why we want to keep him.“
At the same time, the CEO made it clear that the process should not drag on any longer. „The whole thing shouldn’t take so long now. I just don’t want to say an exact date now, because that will be somewhere tomorrow.“ Regardless of a specific deadline, the expectation is clear: FC Bayern wants a quick response

Dreesen was even clearer with a fundamental statement on the record champions‘ negotiating strategy. „We really don’t go along with every nonsense,“ he said with regard to excessive demands. Specifically on the subject of Upamecano, he added: „If you chew a piece of gum for too long, the taste will eventually be gone. That’s why it shouldn’t drag on like chewing gum.“
The 27-year-old’s current contract expires at the end of the season. In Munich, a new working paper for several years is ready. According to media reports, the player is hoping for a significant salary increase and further contractual concessions. However, one thing is clear: from FC Bayern’s point of view, the final offer has been made. The next step now lies with Dayot Upamecano and his entourage.
