Northumbria Police issue match-night warning before Sunderland’s Europa League opener | OneFootball

Northumbria Police have urged supporters to act responsibly as Sunderland host AZ Alkmaar at the Stadium of Light tonight, 16 September, at 8pm, marking the club’s first Europa League match and first European home game in more than 50 years.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said they look forward to welcoming the Dutch club’s players and fans, asked all supporters to enjoy the occasion sensibly, and confirmed they are working with the club, the local authority and partners, with a proportionate police presence in place to help keep everyone safe.

AZ Alkmaar’s visiting supporters plan a march to the Stadium of Light at around 5.30pm, which could see the Keel Crossing temporarily closed. Supporters are advised that brief delays in using the crossing may occur around that time.
