Nottingham Forest find themselves at a crossroads once again, as questions swirl over the future of their head coach following a difficult start to the season. According to The Daily Mail, club owner Evangelos Marinakis will use the international break to evaluate the position of his manager after a run of five defeats in seven games.

The 2-0 loss at Newcastle has intensified pressure on the Australian, who admitted, “I’ll be sitting down with Evangelos during the break, we’ll talk through everything.” That admission, honest yet weary, reflects a man aware of the precarious nature of his position just seven games into his tenure.
Forest’s long-term admiration for Fulham’s Marco Silva is no secret. Daily Mail Sport reports that Silva remains a preferred target, though any move appears unlikely until the summer due to his release clause. Despite being out of contract at the end of the season, Silva’s current deal includes a high buyout that would deter most Premier League clubs.

Silva was previously courted by Benfica but turned down a return to Portugal. That ambition to remain in English football could yet see his name re-emerge should Forest decide to part ways with their current boss.
Meanwhile, Rafael Benitez’s name has also been mentioned in club circles. Marinakis, who also owns Olympiacos, was seen near Benitez during their Champions League tie against Arsenal. While it is understood Benitez was there in an official UEFA capacity, his strong connections with the Marinakis family and desire to return to English football make him a potential option.

During his eight-year reign, Marinakis has favoured managers out of work to avoid drawn-out negotiations and compensation issues. That approach could again shape Forest’s decision-making. Yet with fixtures against Chelsea, Porto and Bournemouth coming rapidly after the break, the timing of any potential change would be fraught with risk.

Forest currently sit 17th in the Premier League, one point above the relegation zone. The coming weeks could define not just the future of the current manager, but the direction of the club’s season.
For Forest supporters, this report will sound all too familiar. The cycle of uncertainty continues to haunt a club that should be building, not rebuilding. Many fans feel a sense of frustration that, barely a month after appointing a new manager, the club is again entertaining change.
A concerned Forest fan would likely point to the lack of continuity as the root of the club’s struggles. “How can any coach build something meaningful if they’re constantly looking over their shoulder?” is a question that would echo around the City Ground this week.
While Marco Silva represents ambition and Rafael Benitez offers pedigree, supporters might worry that the club’s leadership has not learned from the recent past. The pattern of hiring managers who are free agents, though financially cautious, often sacrifices stability and planning.
With the team hovering just above the relegation zone, this feels less like a strategy and more like survival. The next few weeks will test Marinakis’ resolve. If he chooses to pull the trigger yet again, fans will want assurances that there is finally a plan beyond the next result.
In truth, Forest’s biggest opponent right now may not be Chelsea or Porto, but indecision.
