Nottingham Forest were dealt a fresh setback as Chris Wood sustained a knee injury following a red-card challenge in their Europa League quarter-final second leg against FC Porto on Thursday.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Leeds sit three points above Forest in the Premier League survival battle. Forest were in European action at home in the tie’s second leg.

Wood, only just back from injury and making only his second start since October, was forced off after 16 minutes. Eight minutes earlier he had been caught on the inside of his knee by Porto’s Jan Bednarek in a late and high, straight-legged challenge.

After VAR intervention, referee Danny Makkelie checked the monitor and issued Bednarek a straight red card. Wood initially tried to continue.

Morgan Gibbs-White put Forest ahead with 12 minutes played. Soon after, Wood went down for treatment and was substituted, with Igor Jesus coming on.

Forest remained 1-0 up and on course for the semi-finals at the time of the change.
