Nottingham Forest are closing in on the signing of Ousmane Diomande from Sporting Lisbon, with only payment details left to settle and completion possible in the coming hours, according to A Bola. Figures mentioned include an initial €40 million (£34m), add-ons taking it to €45m (£38.5m), and a 10% sell-on clause.
As Oliver Glasner reshapes his squad, the Reds want to reinforce the spine. Xaver Schlager has already arrived as a free agent, and four further recruits are being pursued.
Forest are seeking another midfielder, a striker, a right-back and a centre-back. Diomande has been their preferred option for the latter, and talks had been slowed by the payment structure.
There is also a suggestion the package could be closer to £30m, with potential bonuses lifting it to £35m.
If the deal is completed in time, the defender could feature against his former club on Friday. Forest end their 12-day Portuguese training camp against Sporting at the Estadio Algarve, with a 7.45pm kick-off.
Diomande has been earmarked for the right side of a back three under Glasner. The plan is for him to complement Nikola Milenkovic and Murillo.
