Rafael Obrador is not expected to stay at Benfica, with Deportivo La Coruña contacting the club over a possible deal.
According to Glorioso 1904, the newly promoted LaLiga side want to add a player they know well. The left back impressed in Galicia in 2024/25 while on loan from Real Madrid before joining Benfica.
There is understood to be an understanding between Deportivo and the player over a potential move. The main hurdle is the structure, as Deportivo prefer a loan with an option to buy, a model Benfica are unwilling to repeat after a recent disappointment.
Benfica favour a permanent sale or, alternatively, a loan with an obligatory purchase clause set at a minimum of nine million euros. Their stance also reflects the financial model, with Real Madrid entitled to 50% of any future profit on a sale.
That position follows Torino ending the season without triggering their nine million euros option after Obrador’s loan, despite the defender’s performances. The episode has strengthened Benfica’s reluctance to accept arrangements that do not guarantee future returns.
Rafa Obrador, signed from Real Madrid for around five million euros, remains one of the open dossiers in Benfica’s market planning. Talks between Benfica and Deportivo continue, while Torino wait to see whether Benfica ease their demands or agree to another loan.
