Joao Palhinha could still leave FC Bayern this summer after all. There’s new hope for the Munich club: A top club is apparently preparing a concrete offer for the midfielder.

FC Bayern continues to work on streamlining its roster and generating further transfer revenue following the signings of Nathaniel Brown and Ismael Saibari. At the top of the list of players to be sold is Joao Palhinha, who no longer has a future under Vincent Kompany.

After several transfer options recently fell through, a new and quite promising development is now emerging.

According to the Portuguese website Zerozero, Benfica Lisbon is currently showing the greatest interest in the Portuguese international. The report states that the storied club is preparing an offer of 20 million euros as a fixed transfer fee, plus an additional five million euros in performance-based bonuses.

Of particular interest: Benfica coach Marco Silva is said to be determined to sign Palhinha. The two have already worked together successfully at Fulham FC. According to the report, Silva sees the 30-year-old as his ideal solution for central midfield and is pushing for a reunion.

Palhinha himself is also said to be open to a return to Portugal. A move to Lisbon, in particular, is said to appeal to the midfielder.

FC Bayern wants to sell Palhinha

For FC Bayern, a sale would be an important step. According to recent reports, the Munich club is asking for around 25 million euros for the Portuguese player. The Benfica offer now under discussion would come very close to this asking price, including potential bonus payments, and could thus form the basis for concrete negotiations.

Several transfer options have fallen through recently. Tottenham opted not to sign him permanently after his loan, and Sporting Lisbon was unable to meet Bayern’s financial demands. In the meantime, Juventus and AC Milan have also been linked with Palhinha.

If Benfica were to make a serious move now, it could result in an ideal solution for all parties involved. Bayern Munich would remove another high-salary contract from its payroll while simultaneously securing an attractive transfer fee. For Palhinha, a return to the Portuguese league would also offer the chance for a fresh start on the field in familiar surroundings.
