FC Barcelona have officially announced that their next UEFA Champions League home match, against Olympiacos, will once again be played at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys in Montjuic and not Spotify Camp Nou.
“FC Barcelona announces that the third match of the Champions League round of 16 will be played on Tuesday, October 21, at 6:45 p.m. against Olympiacos at the Estadio Olimpic Lluis Companys,” the statement read.
Providing an update on the situation regarding Camp Nou, the statement added:
“The Club continues to work to obtain the necessary administrative permits for the opening of Spotify Camp Nou in the near future.
“Within this framework, FC Barcelona is working on the new amendments that Barcelona City Council shared with the Club last week.”
There were expectations that Barcelona would return to the Spotify Camp Nou this month, with the La Liga game against Girona, on 18 October, earmarked as the date for reopening.
However, since then, it has been suggested that the Catalans might continue playing at Montjuic until November, due to the higher number of seats and greater revenue generation than a partially reopened Camp Nou with only 27,000 capacity.
The idea is that by November, phase 1B of the Camp Nou redevelopment will be completed, allowing 45,000 fans to return.
“FC Barcelona thanks its members and fans for their understanding and support during such a complex and exciting process as the return to the new Spotify Camp Nou,” the statement ended.
