Borussia Dortmund have announced the appointment of Nils-Ole Book as their new sporting director, replacing Sebastian Kehl.

Yesterday, it was announced that Kehl and Dortmund had parted ways, after the former midfielder spent nearly four years as the sporting director. 

Book joins from Elversberg, where die Schwarzgelben had to buy him out of his contract, but the current price is unknown. The 40-year-old will begin his work at the club on Wednesday, after signing a contract at the club until 2029. 

The former Elversberg sporting director has been one of the masterminds in the club’s rise from the amateur leagues to being on the fringes of the Bundesliga. During his time, he has brought in the likes of Nick Woltemade, Paul Wanner and Fisnik Asllani on loan as well as signing Younes Ebnoutalib from obscurity.

With the 40-year-old being parachuted into Brackel on Wednesday, he will immediately be put to work and will have to try to finalise the contract extension for central defender Nico Schlotterbeck. Then he will be tasked with planning a summer window, which is expected to be a big one for BVB.

The scale of the operation will be completely different to what he was used to at Elversberg.
