Lazio have announced the capture of free agent Danilho Doekhi, who arrives to bolster Gennaro Gattuso’s backline.

Lazio Undergoing Defensive Overhaul

The Biancocelesti are in dire need of defensive reinforcement after selling their two most reliable centre-backs, Mario Gila and Alessio Romagnoli. In recent weeks, 21-year-old Spaniard Sergi Dominguez emerged as the top target. But while Lazio are still working on an agreement with Dinamo Zagreb, they managed to bring in Doekhi following swift negotiations.

After spending four years at Union Berlin, the 28-year-old became a free agent by the end of June. Therefore, the Biancocelesti only need to find an accord with the player and his entourage over personal terms and commissions.

Doekhi landed in Rome on Monday to finalize his agreement with the club directors. After passing his medical, the Dutchman signed his contract, as confirmed by the note published on the official Lazio website.

Doekhi’s Career Path & Impressive Scoring Stats

The Rotterdam native spent his youth career at the academies of XerxesDZB (2004-2006), Excelsior Rotterdam (2006-2016), and Ajax Amsterdam (2016-2017). In 2018, he joined Vitesse’s first team, and then went on to earn a move to Union Berlin in 2022.

During his four years in Germany, he established himself as a stalwart at the back for the Bundesliga side. He also developed a knack for scoring goals, netting 16 times over the past four years, including six last season.
