The odds are against Olympique de Marseille in their bid to qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League. With two games remaining, the club are currently seventh. It is impossible to catch Olympique Lyonnais in third, whilst they are also five points back from Lille OSC, whose fourth-place finish would see them enter the qualification rounds of the competition.
In order to secure any form of European football, they will have to end the season strongly, and perhaps count on RC Lens beating OGC Nice in the Coupe de France final. OM will have to do without Hamed Junior Traoré, as confirmed by the club. He is contending with an adductor injury and will travel to Finland with a view to surgery.
Marseille will also be without Nayef Aguerd, who has struggled with muscular issues throughout the campaign. He underwent surgery on a pubalgia issue in March and will continue his recovery back in his native Morocco, with a view to being fit to compete in this summer’s FIFA World Cup.
