Michael Olise ran the show for France against Sweden, his touch and vision yielding two superb assists, while captain Kylian Mbappé struck twice in a slick attacking display.
As reported by Le Progres, Olise led the ratings. Early on, Mike Maignan collected an Isak effort after two minutes, Lucas Digne had France’s first attempt on 15 minutes, Bradley Barcola surged 40 metres but finished poorly on 19 minutes, and Mbappé saw a goal ruled out for offside on 20 minutes.
France then cranked up the pressure. Mbappé hit a post on 32 minutes after Jules Koundé’s delivery, Ousmane Dembélé missed a big chance on 35 minutes, and Olise’s bicycle kick also crashed off the woodwork on 35 minutes. Sweden threatened on 36 minutes before Dembélé teed up Mbappé to break the deadlock on 45 minutes, with Koundé’s key block on 45+1 minutes and Maignan alert again on 45+2 minutes.
After the break, Olise slipped in Barcola to double the lead on 52 minutes, then supplied another defence-splitting pass on 74 minutes. Mbappé completed his third brace in four matches and now has 18 World Cup goals in as many outings.
Dayot Upamecano was commanding, notably denying Gyökeres on 79 minutes, with William Saliba assured after an early wobble. Maignan pounced on a loose ball in his six-yard box on 82 minutes and saved from Gyökeres on 89 minutes. Dembélé’s dribbling wore Sweden down before Désiré Doué’s lively cameo, and Jean-Philippe Mateta shot off target on 90+2 minutes.
