English clubs are one week from the 2026 summer window opening Monday, June 15. Southampton are expected to fend off top-flight bids.
According to Daily Echo, Dragan Solak is content with the squad, so business will centre on direct replacements. An attacking midfielder is sought to support Finn Azaz, who played every minute while carrying an injury.
James Bree has been offered a very competitive new contract and the club hope he signs before his deal expires this summer. The 28-year-old was among Saints' best performers under Tonda Eckert after a loan at Charlton that had looked a dead end.
Saints may try to keep goalkeeper George Long, who was on loan from Norwich last season and finished as second choice. The 32-year-old has a year left there, so any return could be loan or permanent. With Alex McCarthy and Jamie Jones set to depart, Long would likely back up Daniel Peretz and another keeper would still be needed.
The club must soon confirm their retained and released list, which could arrive by the end of the week. Expected exits include McCarthy and Long, plus Joe Aribo, Will Smallbone, Charlie Taylor and possibly Oriol Romeu.
Southampton have offered Ross Stewart a new deal but he is still deciding. The club were out of the notice period to trigger a clause for an extra year after being expelled from the play-off final. Solak wants Stewart, 29, to stay for one or two more years, but a decision may take longer.
