Max O’Leary has been rewarded for his West Brom form with a Republic of Ireland call-up this month. According to ExpressAndStar.com, the 29-year-old is in Heimir Hallgrímsson’s 21-man squad for a Spanish training camp and a friendly against Grenada. He has one cap, earned in a friendly against Luxembourg last June after helping Bristol City reach the Championship play-offs.

Team-mate Jayson Molumby is also included and could add to his 34 caps. The midfielder missed Albion’s final-day defeat at Sheffield Wednesday with a minor hamstring strain.

Ireland face Grenada in Murcia on 16 May, then meet Qatar on 28 May and Canada on 6 June. They are seeking to recover from World Cup qualifying heartache, when Molumby featured as they were beaten on penalties by Czechia.

O’Leary joined on a short-term deal at the end of January and impressed across a little over three months at The Hawthorns. He made 17 appearances, 16 in the Championship, and kept eight clean sheets, including a run of six shutouts in seven as James Morrison’s side secured survival.

The Bath-born goalkeeper is out of contract at the end of his deal. Albion are weighing up options in the position, with the futures of O’Leary and academy graduate Josh Griffiths, 24, unresolved. Griffiths lost his place to O’Leary, while third-choice Joe Wildsmith is on loan at Middlesbrough and set to depart.
