Owen Hargreaves tells Man Utd who signing No 5 must be after Carlos Baleba

After Manchester United lost 2-0 to Hull in their season opener, former Red Devil Owen Hargreaves has told them to go out and get a fifth signing, with Carlos Baleba joining as the fourth.

United finished third in the Premier League last season, with then-interim boss Michael Carrick picking up a series of impressive results. In his first match as permanent boss, his side massively underwhelmed.

Playing against one of the favourites to be relegated, Hull, United were beaten 2-0.

Poor displays from the forwards, who obviously failed to find the target, have seen former Red Devil Hargreaves suggest a new striker is needed.

He said on TNT Sports: “I think they could probably do with another striker option. I think that showed today, [Benjamin] Sesko didn’t start and [Matheus] Cunha played a little bit deeper. He’s a 10, and plays very effective off the left.

“But I do think with Baleba coming into the team, it is a good squad and it is a top four squad, I just think they were at their best last season counter attacking teams.

“They were at their best counter attacking teams, remember the first ones, Carrick’s first games against City and Arsenal.

“Today where they had possession of the ball they didn’t look like scoring. I think it will be easier when the space opens up. Today there wasn’t that. I think they go back to the drawing board and look at what they can do differently.”

Carlos Baleba to Man Utd done

Baleba will become United’s fourth signing of the summer, after they signed Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans and goalkeeper Karl Darlow.

The Red Devils have been eager to land a third midfielder after the former pair came through the door, and with Baleba’s price dropping, the Brighton man became the ideal target.

TEAMtalk were among the outlets to reveal on Friday night that a deal for the midfielder to join United is in place, for an initial £65million, plus £5million in add-ons.

We are aware the club never lost interest in Baleba after they wanted to sign him last summer, and he will join on a five-year deal.

In terms of potential striker transfers, Igor Matanovic has been linked with the Red Devils.

However, that transfer would require the movement of United striker Joshua Zirkzee, and while he’s been linked with a few clubs this summer, there’s been no concrete movement.
