Lamine Yamal’s return sparked Spain’s attack in a 4-0 World Cup group win over Saudi Arabia, the winger scoring from Mikel Oyarzabal’s cross, with Oyarzabal also netting twice.

L'Équipe highlights that the pair set the tone in a dominant first half.

Yamal slid in Oyarzabal’s centre in the 10th minute. Aymeric Laporte then teed up Oyarzabal from a second-phase corner for 2-0 on 21 minutes. Dani Olmo provided a headed assist for the third on 24 minutes.

Mohammed Al-Owais gifted Oyarzabal a chance for 4-0 on 36 minutes, the forward hitting the bar. The fourth came on 49 minutes when the keeper parried Marc Cucurella’s shot into Hassan Al-Tambakti, who put through his own net.

Both Yamal and Oyarzabal were withdrawn at half-time, for Pino and F. Torres respectively.

Laporte was assured at the back and precise with his longer passes. Rodri looked closer to his Euro 2024 best, tidying the ball and showing more aggression than against Cape Verde.

Olmo was comfortable between the lines and a constant threat. Al-Tambakti was poorly aligned for the opener and later nearly added a second own goal, saved by his goalkeeper. Al-Owais could do little about the first three, then was unfortunate on the fourth.
