According to Nosso Palestra, Vitor Roque will have surgery on his left ankle next week, following a fresh injury sustained in the win over Jacuipense on Thursday 23. Palmeiras are handling his fitness with extra caution.
The forward was caught by a heavy challenge from Vicente Reis down the right. He signalled for a change, received on-field treatment, then was taken off on a stretcher looking visibly frustrated. Luighi replaced him.
He has begun pre-operative physiotherapy at the start of the week to prepare for the procedure, intended to improve comfort during surgery.
The Jacuipense match was his first start since the Campeonato Paulista final in March, when he had been sidelined with an issue in the same ankle.
The club consider this injury similar to Piquerez’s, sustained while playing for Uruguay. Palmeiras do not publish recovery timelines, and the current expectation is that Roque returns after the World Cup.
