Palmeiras share video of Murilo’s scars after Carrascal’s red card in 3-0 win | OneFootball

Palmeiras posted a video on Sunday morning showing the scars on defender Murilo’s skin after a challenge by Flamengo’s Carrascal during Saturday’s 3-0 win at the Maracanã.

At 21 minutes of the first half, Carrascal raised his boot in a duel and caught Murilo’s arm, chest and face with his studs. The Colombian was shown a straight red card.

The club’s social media post made a wry comparison to MMA as it shared the footage.

The CBF later released the audio from the review. Referee Davi de Oliveira Lacerda sent Carrascal off, with VAR led by Caio Max Augusto Vieira advising the on-field decision should stand. The VAR said that although Carrascal played the ball, he then struck the opponent’s chest and face with the sole of his boot, a sensitive area, and the force put Murilo’s safety at risk.

The result extended Palmeiras’ lead at the top to seven points. They have 38 points, with Flamengo second on 31 and a game in hand.
