Palmeiras face Vasco on Sunday 23 at 16:00 at Nubank Parque in the Campeonato Brasileiro. The leaders seek another win to protect their advantage, while the visitors are fighting relegation. Off the pitch, a potential takeover has thrust both clubs into focus.
According to Nosso Palestra, Vasco are in advanced talks to sell 90% of their SAF to businessman Marcos Faria Lamacchia, stepson of Leila Pereira and son of José Roberto Lamacchia, her husband. The deal is valued at more than R$ 2 billion.
The mooted purchase has sparked debate over governance and possible conflicts of interest in Brazilian football given the family link to the Palmeiras president. Leila has said she is not involved in the talks, telling ge it is Marcos’s business and stressing his independence.
There is, to date, no official evidence that Leila is a buyer, partner or direct participant in the Vasco SAF negotiation. Any connection rests on her family ties to Marcos and José Roberto Lamacchia.
On Friday 21, UOL reported that Crefisa, which Leila chairs, authorised a bank guarantee that helped Vasco complete the signing of Santiago Sosa from Racing. That move came while SAF negotiations continue.
