According to the Ballon d’Or ranking, at least, the best player in the world plays for Paris Saint-Germain. Ousmane Dembélé (28) was awarded the individual accolade back in September. And, according to a former French great, Patrick Vieira, one of his PSG teammates, Désiré Doué (20), also belongs in the conversation.
Dembélé won the award, having scored the lion’s share of the goals that took Les Parisiens to the UEFA Champions League title. However, in the final itself, it was Doué who stood out, netting a brace as they demolished Inter Milan 5-0 in Munich back in May; not a bad way to finish his debut season with PSG, especially given the struggles that he had experienced at the start of the campaign.
“Doué is the best young player in Europe. Not only did he score in the Champions League final, where he showed all of his talent, but he also improved a lot at Rennes and has continued that at PSG,” Vieira told Foot Mercato.
His comments come in the wake of Doué’s nomination for the Golden Boy prize, an award that Vieira thinks his compatriot will win. “Lamine Yamal can’t be nominated this year, so I think that Doué will win it. He is a young player with a lot of talent; I think he is among the best in the world,” added Vieira.
