Barcelona star Pedri has moved to defend a fellow member of Hansi Flick’s squad, in the aftermath of the club’s latest outing.
The player in question? Robert Lewandowski.
Striker Lewandowski was for his part of course singled out for a fresh round of heavy criticism this past weekend.
This came after the Pole was responsible for a crucial mishap during Barcelona’s La Liga meeting with Sevilla.
En route to an eventual 4-1 drubbing for the Blaugrana in Andalusia, Lewandowski was handed the chance to level things up late on, from the penalty spot.
The former Bayern Munich man, however, dragged his ensuing effort wide, much to the shock of those watching on.
With as much having come amid a disappointing all-round performance on Lewandowski’s part, the 37-year-old was in turn singled out for widespread criticism post-match.
Speaking to the media following the full-time whistle at The Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán, the subject of his teammate’s penalty woes was therefore put to the aforementioned Pedri.
And Barca’s midfield standout made use of the opportunity to defend Lewandowski, responding:
“Lewandowski missing a penalty? These are moments that change the course of the match, but penalties can be missed. We shouldn’t pin the reason on that alone. Throughout the match, we weren’t good enough.”
