Pedro reached 205 career goals after scoring twice on Sunday, and his father, Marcos Guilherme, has every one logged. Also known as Marcão, he now keeps a spreadsheet of his son’s strikes and delights in seeing the Flamengo number nine sit sixth on the club’s all-time list. According to Globo.com, he also represents Pedro via his agency Pnine.

Marcão began the tally when Pedro broke into Fluminense’s senior side. The first entry dates to 24 January 2017, a 3-2 win over Criciúma in the now-defunct Primeira Liga.

He started in a paper diary before switching to a computer file for security. The log covers date, venue, opponent and which body part scored, plus splits such as headers, left foot, Brasileiro, Copa do Brasil, six-yard box, outside the box and penalties.

His count stands at 167 goals for Flamengo, 31 for Fluminense, one for Fiorentina, one for Brazil and five for Brazil’s Olympic team.

A Flamengo supporter, he believes the 28-year-old could reach the podium, specifically third place just behind Zico. He joked that Romário, 37 goals ahead in the ranking, is already in the rear-view mirror.

All three of his children tried football, with Victor and Thaísa defenders who passed through clubs including Artsul, Botafogo and Flamengo’s youth sides. At 55, Marcão says he has not seen a Flamengo centre-forward quite like Pedro, describing him as more technical with placed finishing, whereas Adriano relied more on power.
