Piquerez becomes Palmeiras’ only left back after Jefté injury | OneFootball

Palmeiras have opened 2026 with a mounting injury list, and Jefté’s first half blow in the 1-0 win over Portuguesa has left Joaquín Piquerez as Abel Ferreira’s only senior left back. Piquerez was rested for the Paulistão opener.

According to Nosso Palestra, the scenario contrasts with 2025, when Piquerez began the year injured while Vanderlan and Caio Paulista vied for the role. Neither cemented the position, Vanderlan was sold to Red Bull Bragantino and Caio had loans to Atlético-MG and Grêmio.

With Jefté sidelined and Piquerez the sole option, academy full back Arthur Gabriel, 20, could feature in the early Paulistão rounds to share minutes. He and defender Koné were registered on lists A and B on Monday 12.

After Jefté went off against Portuguesa, right back Giay covered on the left.

Arthur had been with the Under-20s in the Copa São Paulo, scoring one and assisting one in the 4-2 win over Monte Roraima. He was sent off in the 9-0 victory over Batalhão and served a suspension against Remo.

He was not selected to face Vitória on Tuesday, instead following the seniors’ schedule, and could be named for the Santos match on Wednesday 14. Palmeiras then face Mirassol on Saturday 17.
