Gonzalo Plata has joined Dynamo Moscow for about 10 million euros, ending his two-year spell at Flamengo. The Ecuador forward flew to Russia on Saturday, leaving as a starter but not universally popular.

According to Globo.com, he arrived on 30 August 2024 from Al-Sadd for US$9.1 million. He made 100 appearances, scoring nine and supplying 13 assists.

Plata’s high points included the title-winning strike in the 1-0 victory at Atlético-MG in the 2024 Copa do Brasil final. In 2025 he delivered two assists in the 3-1 win over Chelsea at the Club World Cup, and set up Pedro against Estudiantes in the Libertadores quarters.

Coaches Filipe Luís and Leonardo Jardim valued his tactical work on the right. Off the pitch, nightlife and lateness drew sanctions, and in March Jardim dropped him and criticised him publicly. He then scrubbed club images from social media, while Cruzeiro’s loan approach collapsed after Flamengo asked for Kaio Jorge.

He was also sent off at Racing in the semi-final for striking an opponent, then again against São Paulo at Vila Belmiro as a late equaliser followed.

Plata recovered form before the World Cup, scoring the winner in Ecuador’s 2-1 defeat of Germany to reach the knockouts. After returning, his entourage pushed for improved terms or a sale, and the move to Russia followed.
