Porto are assessing a move for Seko Fofana, 30, who is on his way out of Rennes. The midfielder has been offered to the club and was left out of yesterday’s league game against Lorient, with a loan seen as the most feasible route.
Porto’s priorities this window remain centre-back and winger, but they are monitoring opportunities. Ouest-France reports that Fofana is on the lists of Porto and Benfica and that Portugal would appeal more than Türkiye to the Ivory Coast international.
He has 163 Ligue 1 and 112 Serie A appearances and has not started since October. Rennes paid €20 million a year ago and are unlikely to recoup that now, so a loan is the likeliest option. He featured for Ivory Coast at AFCON.
Any Porto move could hinge on a midfield departure. As of yesterday, nothing was imminent and the club does not want to lose first-choice options Alan Varela, Pablo Rosario, Froholdt, Gabri Veiga or Rodrigo Mora, while Rosario and Froholdt cannot be transferred now. That leaves Stephen Eustáquio and Tomás Pérez, with the latter outside Francesco Farioli’s plans.
Porto are braced for a lively final week after last winter’s late exits of Galeno and Nico González to Saudi Arabia and England for irresistible sums. They are also alert to a chance to add a centre-forward.
