Premier League players were instrumental as Germany and the Netherlands secured their places at the 2026 World Cup with dominant victories in their final qualifying matches on Tuesday.

Newcastle United’s Nick Woltemade and Liverpool’s Florian Wirtz both starred in Germany’s 6-0 rout of Slovakia. Meanwhile, England-based players scored all four goals in the Netherlands’ 4-0 win over Lithuania. This marked a first for the Dutch national team.

Dutch Qualification Written by the Premier League

The Netherlands confirmed their status as group winners with a 4-0 victory over Lithuania. The scoresheet highlighted the growing influence of their Premier League contingent.

First, Manchester City midfielder Tijjani Reijnders opened the scoring with a lashed finish in the 16th minute. Then, Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo added a second from the penalty spot. Shortly after, Tottenham’s Xavi Simons hammered in a third. Finally, Aston Villa forward Donyell Malen completed the unique scoresheet with a fine solo goal.

This result cemented the unbeaten Dutch side’s place at the top of their group. Meanwhile, second-placed Poland, who won 3-2 in Malta, will now head to the play-offs.

Woltemade and Wirtz Lead German Rout

In Leipzig, Germany entered their match needing at least a draw against Slovakia. Instead, they delivered an emphatic 6-0 victory to win Group A. Their Premier League talent certainly led the charge.

Newcastle striker Nick Woltemade continued his impressive international form. He put Germany in control with an early, powerful header from a Joshua Kimmich cross.

Furthermore, Liverpool’s Florian Wirtz was the primary architect of the attack. He ran the midfield. He also provided two sublime assists for Galatasaray’s Leroy Sane, who scored twice before the break.

Earlier, Serge Gnabry had doubled the lead. Later, substitutes Ridle Baku and Assan Ouedraogo rounded out the 6-0 scoreline. Ouedraogo’s goal was particularly special, coming just two minutes into his international debut.

This win also marked a fourth consecutive clean sheet for Julian Nagelsmann’s side. Unfortunately for Slovakia, they were denied a potential equaliser at 1-0 by a sharp save from Oliver Baumann. They now drop into the play-offs after this chastening defeat.
