This year’s FA Community Shield will be staged at Principality Stadium rather than its traditional home at Wembley Stadium, the The Football Association has confirmed.

The annual curtain-raiser between the winners of the Premier League and the FA Cup will take place on 16 August, a week before the start of the new league season. Wembley is unavailable on that weekend due to previously scheduled concerts, prompting the switch to Cardiff.

It will mark the first time in 20 years the fixture has been held in the Welsh capital. The Principality Stadium previously hosted the Community Shield six times between 2001 and 2006 while Wembley was undergoing redevelopment.

Since the new Wembley reopened in 2007, the match has only twice been staged away from the national stadium - at Villa Park in 2012 due to the London 2012 Olympic Games football schedule, and at King Power Stadium in 2022 when Wembley hosted the UEFA Women's Euro 2022 Final.

With a capacity of more than 74,000 and a UEFA five-star rating, the Principality Stadium is no stranger to major occasions. The venue is also set to stage the opening match of UEFA Euro 2028.
