Grischa Prömel has joined home town club VfB Stuttgart on a free from TSG Hoffenheim, signing a deal through 2029. The 31-year-old midfielder calls it the realisation of a long-held ambition.

“I’m not getting any younger. Now was simply the right time,” he told Sport1.

Born in Stuttgart and raised in nearby Esslingen, he has a strong bond with the club, with many childhood friends in the stands as VfB supporters. “If someone from your circle manages to play for VfB and have his own shirt with his name on the back, then everyone’s heart starts beating faster,” Prömel said.

The switch offers the chance of Champions League football. “I didn’t make the move dependent on the Champions League,” he explained.

At 31 he is an atypical addition for Sebastian Hoeneß’s Stuttgart, yet his experience could prove valuable as the club prepares for a season with big goals nationally and internationally.
