Prosecutors are seeking a nine-year prison sentence for footballer Álvaro Aguado, a former RCD Espanyol player, over an alleged sexual assault on a club employee in a Barcelona nightclub in June 2024.
EFE reports that the indictment alleges the incident occurred in the early hours of 24 June at Opium Barcelona, and that the woman, described as in shock, told him to stop and that she did not want sex.
Around five am, the pair had been in a reserved area during Espanyol's promotion celebrations, where they danced together. The player then took her by the hand, while she was temporarily dizzy from alcohol but not unconscious, and led her towards the car-park stairs before staff blocked their way.
He allegedly took her into the men's bathroom and assaulted her vaginally and orally without a condom, after which she suffered psychological after-effects. He then ceased, dressed, and told her they did not know each other. The defendant is currently on provisional release in this case.
The prosecution charges sexual assault with oral and vaginal penetration and asks for 10 years of supervised release once any custodial term is served. It also seeks a restraining order keeping him 1,000 metres from the woman and a ban on contact for eight years after prison. In civil damages, prosecutors seek €55,000 for moral harm and €10,000 for psychological sequelae.
